WHY IS APRIL SAYC MONTH?

by Claire Sheldon

[ Back to Previous Page ]

Master Point Press has deemed April to be SAYC month! Beyond the easy rationale of "Why not?", there are several other good reasons to celebrate the Standard American Yellow Card bidding system this month. We are already thinking about yellow things, since April is the month that the daffodils bloom in many regions, and when they are sold in support for cancer research and the yellow ribbon campaign. Yellow is apparently very "in" this year, for everything from fashion to decor, because it is supposed to cheer us up in dark financial times. Thank goodness bridge is not the most costly of hobbies.

More importantly, spring is also the quintessential time of new beginnings. Perhaps your convention card could use a little spring cleaning. With SAYC, you can begin a new bridge partnership with ease and build upon the system, or you can teach the basic version to a new bridge player. You could begin playing bridge online, if you don't already, and have a new partner every day, since it is quite easy to find others who can play SAYC.

All this month, we will be having features and promotions regarding SAYC on our Bridge Blogging, Mastering Bridge, and eBooks Bridge sites. So, spring into action and pick up a copy of Standard Bidding with SAYC, by Ned Downey and Ellen "Caitlin" Pomer. Get out your yellow highlighter to emphasize the most helpful excerpts, then head to the club or to the computer and meet a new friend.
